MRTA (Marijuana Retail Taxation Act)

The MRTA, also known as the Marijuana Retail Taxation Act is a crucial component to the Legalization of Recreational Adult-Use Cannabis. The Bill passed on March 31st, 2021, setting forth the vision for NYS cannabis, establishing a regulatory framework aimed toward SOCIAL EQUITY access, within a multi-tiered "NYS Cannabis Eco-system". Revisions have been made since then, and will continue to be made in the better interest of the public.  Let this document become the start to your NYS cannabis industry journey.

Governing Agency

When the Bill for the MRTA passed on March 31st, 2021, Ligislation established the OCM (Office of Cannabis Management) as the regulatory body in charge of the licensing, regulation, enforcement and "Social Equity" program development in the NYS market. This is done via the CCB (Cannabis Control Board) and the CAB (Cannabis Advisory Board).

What's In The Law?

Understanding the Law is a skillset required in navigating the NYS cannabis space not just as a potential stake holder, but also as a responsible consumer.  It's important to know "what's in the law", wether you're purchasing, carrying, storing or consuming cannabis products, ignorance to the law is not admissible in court when you find yourself breaking the law.
